ACEA: New Car Registrations Fell By 2.7%

In April, demand for new cars in the European Union was 4.1% lower than last year, registrations totaled 1,089,118 units in November. In the first 4 months were registered 4,674,457 units (-2.7% versus the same period of 2010).

In April, demand for new cars in the European Union was 4.1% lower than last year, registrations totaled 1,089,118 units in November. In the first 4 months were registered 4,674,457 units (-2.7% versus the same period of 2010).

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the results of April show a contraction of most markets except Germany (+2.6%) leading to an overall decrease of 4.1%. Demand was lower in Italy (-2.2%), United Kingdom (-7.4%), France (-11.1%) and Spain (-23.3%). Germany was the largest market with 266,251 registrations in November, followed by France (169,757 units), Italy (157,309), UK (137.746) and Spain (71,808).

From January to April 2011, growth was recorded in two-thirds of the market, but a reversal is felt in England (8.5%), Italy (-19.0%) and Spain (-26.3%) which led to a decline of 2.7% in the EU (EU27).

Germany remained the largest market, accounting for over 1 million units in the first four months of 2011, 10.7% more than the same period last year, followed by France with 817,211 units (+4.0%).
