Audi prefers a mini-SUV based on the Volkswagen Up

Audi has no plans to develop its own version of the future Volkswagen Up minicar, but could create a small SUV (Q1) based on this model, "says Rupert Stadler, Audi CEO.
The press speculated that Audi will take up its own version of the model under the name Audi "A0". However, Stadler told Automotive News Europe: "I can not imagine a model positioned below the Audi A1, the smallest of our vehicle."
Stadler said he sees a potential rather than in the Q5 SUV and Q3, which will be launched this year. "Q family certainly has potential. It is not complete yet, "said the German official. The company has not yet reached a decision whether to launch a car with the name Q1.
Audi now has 37 models and variants, with plans to expand the number to 42 by 2015 as part of ambitious plans to dethrone BMW as the largest luxury carmaker in the world.
Stadler was optimistic about the demand for the A1 model, launched last year. "It seems that we will use the full capacity of 120,000 units of our factory in Brussels this year, and this will happen even if you only sell two-door version A1," Stadler said.
Audi A1 will be released in the U.S. because of limitations in production capacity. "We simply do not have the ability to launch A1 U.S., even if our dealers are very enthusiastic about this car. Prefer to exploit the full potential of the machines they sell in the U.S. before launching new models. "
