According to AutoExpress, Audi will build a mini R8, called Audi R4 - production version of Audi's electric concept-throne presented in premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
According to British journalist, Audi will launch a smaller model R8, called R4, to be actually production version of the concept of power that made furore in Frankfurt - Audi e-throne. R4 Audi model range will be offered in versions with petrol engines, thus giving him a younger brother of the R8, Audi TT positioned above the range.
Audi's electric concept-throne was probably one of the biggest attractions at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but not necessarily by design and form, and particularly with the electrical propulsion system, offering 313 hp and massive torque of 4500 nm.
President of Audi America, Johan de Nysschen, confirmed that it will provide a competitor for the Tesla Roadster. De Nysschen said it expected to begin testing the first prototype in two years, so the showrooms will most likely arrive in 2012. Until then Audi will have sufficient time to develop electric propulsion system.
