BMW 5 Series received a maximum safety rating in NHTSA tests tougher

BMW 5 Series is one of the two vehicles that received the maximum five-star overall rating in the first crash tests conducted by the National Traffic Safety Administration in the U.S. (NHTSA) scoring system with new, harder.

The new criteria for testing new cars include side-impact tests stingente, dummy use different sizes (also now looking like a small adult female and adult male of average size), more data collection, entry scoring a single overall score and additional support systems to crash and electronic stability system (ESP) of departure warning system and lane frontal collision warning system.

"The performance of the new 5 Series BMW these new tests reflect the tendency to create safer vehicles, focusing both on active safety and passive," said Jim O'Donnell, president of BMW North America. "For this reason we were the first to head protection system introduced in 1997 and created the Dynamic Stability Control, electronic stability of our system, standard on all BMW models sold in the U.S. since 2000.

BMW 5 Series is available Lane Departure Warning systems, Blind Spot Detection and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go facility. Customers can also opt for "Night Vision with detection of pedestrians, a premiere from BMW.

Every 2011 BMW 5 Series is equipped with BMW Assist (awarded by Euro NCAP) system including automatic collision notification. It not only automatically dials an emergency call center in a collision but also submit data on the severity of the accident for aid should be better prepared.

Another safety feature for motorists driving in cold climates is disponibilatea BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system, now available on 535i and 550i sedan models and Gran Turismo.
