BMW: A Turbocharged V6 For The Next M3?
The engine of the new BMW M3 will have six cylinders. You return to the old, the second and third generation, when precisely 6L units were used by 3.0 and 3.2 liters. Established the architecture - even if doubts remain - remain to be given displacement and supercharging. In that regard, a forum user M3post reported the range of four units that the Bavarian engineers are preparing to browse.
The least feasible option - if only because it disagrees with what has been written so far - is to use the current V8 4.0 (S65) with twin turbocharger, for even the next X3 and Z4 M M. This eight-cylinder will have more hp and Nm compared to the naturally aspirated form, obtained by sacrificing the sharp delivery and the propensity to turn "up".
According to the user southlight Motorsport technicians may also use the six-cylinder twin turbine N54/N55 and Single beds or the V8 4.4 (S63) of X5 M/X6 M. From the latter will probably gained a supercharged V6 (the number of impellers is still unknown), light and powerful, with values similar to the current V8 power and torque. This solution seems more feasible at the moment. It remains to be seen whether an engine with six-cylinder architecture and vu will be appreciated by our customers.
