Chevrolet Volt, Built In A Plant Based On Solar Energy

The largest network of solar panels in southeast Michigan will be built at Detroit-Hamtramck plant of General Motors, converting the sun's energy into electricity for the construction of extended range electric Volt model.

The project of 516 kilowatts, and GM announced yesterday by DTE Energy, will generate electricity able to load 150 extended-range electric car every day for a year - a total of 54 750 Volt machines.

Network of solar panels which spans 24,500 square meters is expected to be ready by the end of this summer and will result in savings of $ 15,000 per year for 20 years.

Detroit-Hamtramck plant was chosen for this project because it had space available and that builds the Chevrolet Volt here.

"Network of solar panels will lead to lower electricity consumption by combining solar power with existing effective tactics, such as upgrading lighting and equipment and machinery autoînchiderea," said Bob Ferugson, GM vice president.

GM plant to plant is part of DTE Energy's pilot program that aims to install sufficient solar panels over the next five years that generate 15 megawatts of electricity in southeastern Michigan. DTE invests $ 3 million to Detroit-Hamtramck plant.
