Daimler CEO: Germany Will Not Be Able To Make The Streets A Million Electric Cars

Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG, said today that Germany will not be able to have one million electric cars on roads by 2021 if the government would provide subsidies for these vehicles, the German newspaper Bild wrote.

Germany will be able to take to the streets "at most" 500 000 electric cars to date, without subsidies from the state, Zetsche said in an interview with German newspaper Bild.

In May, the German government reported that initial investment will add another 1 billion euros for research and development of technologies necessary electrical machinery, thus doubling the budget by 2013.

Relief, dedicated parking spaces and measures to promote government use of electric cars is among Germany's intentions to achieve the target with electric cars over the next ten years, said Chancellor Angela Merker at that time.
