Daimler company is accused of bribery

U.S. Justice Department accused the German manufacturer Daimler that it bribed officials in at least 22 states, including Russia, China, Iraq. Daimler will pay 185 million dollars to not go to trial.

German car and truck manufacturer Daimler AG has been accused of violating U.S. laws by offering millions of dollars to foreign officials and luxury cars as gifts to gain advantages in the conclusion of business.

Daimler plans to pay 185 million dollars for the authorities to drop charges U.S. Department of Justice, while subsidiaries in Germany and Russia plan to plead guilty if charges, according to sources familiar with the case, quoted by Automotive News.

Prosecutors accuse U.S. maker of Mercedes-Benz of involvement "in a practice of bribery, to secure certain contracts in Russia, China, Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Iraq and other 16 countries between 1998 and 2008.

Daimler Chrysler was a shareholder in American manufacturer between 1998 and 2007, and the investigation began in 2004 when an auditor complained that he was fired because he protested the use of secret accounts for bribing foreign officials.
