Daimler Profit Increased By 71%, Thanks To Sales In China

Daimler AG has had a great start this year 2011 first quarter gross profit amounted to EUR 2.031 million (Q1 2010: 1.190 million), representing an increase of 71% compared to same period last year.

The increase in gross profit (EBIT - Earnings Before Interest and Taxes) has led to an improvement in the net profit totaled 1.180 million (Q1 2010: 612 million).

"We achieved excellent first quarter earnings. Thus in order to position us well ahead of plans and confirms our positive expectations for 2011, "said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, director on the board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars division.

The spectacular increase in group profit is reflected in almost all divisions of Daimler. Mercedes-Benz Cars, Daimler Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Vans increased their number of units sold, compared to the same period last year in all major regions.

The main factor that contributed to profit growth has been significant growth in sales, especially in premium and luxury segments, and SUV range. In China, Mercedes-Benz division has significantly increased the number of units sold (78%) as a result of attractive portfolio, the new Mercedes S-Class with a major contribution (25%).

Daimler aims by 2015 to deliver 1.5 million machines, based on double sales in China to 300,000 vehicles.

German manufacturer plans to sell more than 1.3 million Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars in 2011, compared with 1.28 million last year.
