Daimler wants to launch a hydrogen car

German manufacturer Daimler wants to produce by 2015 an electric car powered by hydrogen, completely clean technology, and whose price will be similar to the hybrid, said research director of the company.
Daimler, the owner and maker of Mercedes-Benz, is about to exceed one of the main obstacles of the series production of these vehicles that use almost 60 grams of platinum, an expensive precious metal. The manufacturer has already managed to reduce the need for platinum and hopes to use not more than 10 grams per vehicle.
"The price of this vehicle would be close to that of a diesel hybrid model," said Kohler, in an interview with German magazine Wirtschaftswoche.
The launch of this vehicle is planned for 2015, said to AFP, a spokesman for Daimler.
Hydrogen cars, hybrid cars competing technology (which gasoline engine and electric motor), are regarded as totally clean, as it removes only water and heat. They are supplied with electricity through a device that operates on the principle of reverse electrolysis. The development of this technique is hampered, however, lack a wide network of distribution of hydrogen.
In September, auto manufacturers Daimler, Toyota, Renault / Nissan, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and Kia have signed an agreement to encourage the introduction of vehicles based on fuel cells and infrastructure development for hydrogen as a fuel distribution first in Germany, the United States, Japan and South Korea.
Toyota is the first manufacturer that has announced it will launch a 2015 business model hydrogen car.
