Fiat will build cars in China

From the second half of 2011 Fiat will start producing cars in China following an agreement with Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group. The first model to be produced in China is Fiat Linea.

Fiat has an agreement with Chinese company Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group to set up a joint company with equal shares, which will produce cars and engines in China in the second half of 2011, total investment is 400 million euros.

Italian Group, which recently took a 20% stake in U.S. company Chrysler has announced that in a first phase, the new factory will produce 140,000 cars per year and 220,000 engines. Subsequently, production could be increased to a maximum of 250,000 cars and 300,000 engines per year.

The new factory will be built in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, and the first model to be manufactured is the Fiat Linea.
