Reliability has improved compared to 2010 vehicles, automakers managed to reduce the rate of problems in many areas, but there are new challenges following the introduction of new technologies and facilities, according to a study JD Power 2011.

Vehicle Reliability Study (Vehicle Dependability Study-VDS), which measures problems in the last 12 months reported by customers 3 years old cars (2008 models), includes 202 different issues covering all areas of a vehicle. Reliability is determined by the average problems per 100 vehicles occurred, and a lower score means a higher quality.

For the first time from this study annual Lincoln leads the standings for 2011. American brand owned by Ford has improved its average by 12 points over last year. Lexus is second, and Jaguar, Porsche and Toyota enter the top five most reliable brands, according to U.S. study JD Power. 911 is the model with the fewest faults in the industry, with an average of only 68.

Toyota Motor continues to perform very well in the long term reliability and win seven awards - more than any other car - the Lexus RX, Scion xB, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Prius, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra.

Ford has received five awards for the Ford Fusion, Ford Mustang, Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln Navigator.

General Motors (Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS and the Chevrolet Tahoe) and Honda Motor Company (Acura RL, Honda CR-V, Honda Fit) received three awards each.

BMW X3, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mercedes-Benz CLK models were also awarded in this reliability study.
