Mazda Motor Corporation has confirmed that the sedan version of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan), fully redesigned for the first time in 5 years, will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008.
Mazda will debut a fully redesigned version of its top selling compact Mazda 3 at the Los Angeles Motor Show next month, the Japanese car maker has announced. Five years after its first launch, the 2010 model Mazda 3 has been refined with more dynamic design features such as pronounced fenders and angular headlights.
Mazda also claims improved fuel economy and a quieter ride compared to the predecessor model.
After the world debut of the U.S. Specification sedan fitted with 2 and 2.5-litre engines, the five-door hatchback will be unveiled in line with the company's global sales schedule, the car maker announced.
The covers will be pulled off during Mazda' press conference from 12:20 to 12:45 (local time) revealing the all-new Mazda3, the latest evolution of Mazda' Zoom-Zoom spirit.
Wonder no more, because the Hiroshima automaker's latest road-rocket has been spotted out in the open testing on Germany's famed Nurburgring, wearing just a minimum of camo. The first new MazdaSpeed model since 2007, this also marks a debut of sorts for the new 3's hatchback bodywork. More so than the sedan, this hatch resembles the current Mazda3 five-door, particularly in profile, although through all the black tape the car's new, smiling grille, angular headlights, and prominent wheel arches can be clearly seen, along with a rising beltline and revised side detailing. Of course, as part of the 'Speed3 treatment this particular Mazda hatch has also been kicked up a notch, including the addition of a body kit, dual-exhaust, rear diffuser, new wheels, a slightly larger rear wing, and a new, bulging hood.
Every element of the all-new Mazda3 has been developed for heightened exhilaration, with a more refined sporty ride, top class fuel economy and quietness. Environmental and safety features, based on Mazda's long-term "ustainable Zoom-Zoom" vision, aim to achieve a balance with fun-to-drive. Add in a new expressive face and Mazda's dynamic design elements, and the all-new Mazda3 is everything a driver could ask for in a sports compact.
The 3's popularity has made it by far Mazda's best-selling model worldwide since it went on sale in 2003, giving the Honda Civic its closest competition for the most popular car in this country. At the height of its popularity, Mazda Canada officials insisted that sales were being constricted because they couldn't get enough of them, since it was so popular in other parts of the world as well.
Since its launch in 2003, the current Mazda3 has sold approx. 1.8 million vehicles in over 100 countries and has won more than 90 global motoring awards to date. The Mazda3 accounts for almost one in three Mazdas sold every year.
The Mazda3 offers more interior room than the current model, largely because it is built on the longer platform of the upcoming third-generation Ford Focus, due for release in 2010.
At the front, sleek headlights are mixed with deep air intakes and a low splitter. In profile, there's the trademark angled C-pillar, but it's joined by a waistline that kicks up over the back door towards a chunky rear bumper and a steeply angled tailgate.
Inside, the Mazda3 gets new, improved materials and a dashboard that copies its counterpart in the Mazda6, complete with steering wheel-mounted controls for the stereo and ventilation systems.
Although the '10 Mazda 3 sedan gets a 2.5-liter engine, the Mazdaspeed 3 could retain the existing 2.3-liter, with Mazda massaging the turbo for more power, better boost response and improved fuel economy.
The new Mazda3 is said to weigh a lot less than the current Mazda3 model. This modification will ensure a more pleasurable driving experience and will make the 2010 Mazda3 extremely fuel and cost-efficient.
A major update for the Mazda 3 is due for the 2010 model year. The sedan version will be unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show next month.
But this car, heavily camouflaged, is the Mazdaspeed 3 hatchback, the one that gets enthusiasts' hearts beating faster.
Following the world debut of the North American specification sedan with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines at the show, the five-door hatchback version will be revealed in line with Mazda's global sales schedule. - The press days are November 19 and 20, and the public days are November 21 through 30.
- Currently Mazda's top selling model globally, with one of the highest production volumes of any single model in Japan.
- Awards include: Car of the Year in Russia, Canada, Spain, Israel, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, etc., and European Car of the Year second place.
