Opel tested system's amp-Voltec Chevrolet Cruze

Opel began testing prototypes Amper, electric vehicle to be launched into production in late 2011. The first to development, Opel engineers have installed the propulsion system on the Chevrolet Cruze Voltec.

Opel Amper entered into development tests for series production, the manufacturer offers the first details and photos "spy" official. Engineers have begun testing two prototypes of extended-range electric model (E-REV).

They have mounted electric propulsion system Voltec - including battery, electric motor and motor-generator - a body of a model already in series production: the Chevrolet Cruze. It is a technique well known in the auto industry as to the completion of body and exterior design, the technique is tested under the umbrella of another model.

"Amper prototypes shows that a practical electric model, with four seats and enough space for luggage is not just a theory but a car will become reality in 2011," said Frank Weber, Vehicle Line Executive for the development of the Opel amps.

The new Opel electric models Amper is developed in three distinct phases. The first stage involves developing the technical part of the vehicle, then used to analyze the behavior of specific parts. In the next phase, prototypes are equipped with all previously tested separately. Final stage collecting all components, including the exterior, for a car to be tested and in terms of aerodynamics.

Opel Amper, with five doors and four seats, very original technology of electric propulsion, called Voltec, which is different from other advanced hybrid propulsion systems. The electric vehicle uses E-REV as the primary source of energy electricity and gas as a secondary source to generate electricity.

Amper model is electrically driven wheels at all times and at any speed. To travel at speeds up to 60 km, it works exclusively on electricity stored in lithium-ion battery is 16 kWh, with zero CO2 emissions. When the battery is low, the autonomy model is extended due Amper electricity provided by a motor-generator, up to 500 km. The Amper can be supplied for loading from any regular power outlet, of 230 V.

Entry into production of the Opel Amper was announced for the end of 2011.
