Peugeot denies collaboration with Mitsubishi for hybrid vehicles
Peugeot Citroen denied information circulating in Japanese media that the French group will collaborate with Japanese auto manufacturer Mitsubishi to develop and produce parts for hybrid vehicles.
Economic Japanese publication Nikkei has indicated that the two groups, developing their own hybrid vehicles, plans to cooperate on engine components. Hybrid vehicles, propulsion mixed on conventional fuel and electricity, are equipped with batteries that can be loaded either from the regular grid (plug-in hybrids), or the energy generated to slow the vehicle (conventional hybrids, which consume more gasoline).
Mitsubishi would have followed the French group to provide high capacity batteries, the technology of lithium ions, according to Nikkei.
"Negăm information. We are currently well with Mitsubishi in hybrid vehicles. In addition, we own research program for plug-in vehicles," said a spokesman Peugeot Citroen.
A Mitsubishi official said that the group has not announced anything.
