Opel portfolio continues its expansion and the addition of a new convertible in 2013 was confirmed today. Convertible will be based on the Opel compact class architecture that underlies the current generation Astra and Astra GTC Astra SportsTourer.

The new convertible model, which could be called Astra TwinTop, part of the investment plan of 11 billion euros announced about a year ago and comes after successful products such as Insignia, Car of the Year 2009, Astra, winner of the Golden Steering Wheel 2009 Meriva with its acclaimed innovative door opening reverse Zafira future, and revolutionary electric vehicle amps.

Convertible will be based on the architecture of the compact class of Opel / Vauxhall, which underlies the current generation Astra Astra GTC Astra SportsTourer and future. As a result of a partnership between management and employee representatives during the Gliwice plant restructurings, convertible model will be built at ultra efficient factory in Poland, alongside the current five-door Astra.

"The new convertible will be an important contribution to our range of products," said the CEO of Opel / Vauxhall, Nick Reilly.
