PSA Peugeot Citroen have e-HDi technology
Representatives of PSA Peugeot Citroën today presented the world premiere e-HDi technology - a new generation Stop & Start system which combines a reversible alternative power and a diesel engine that reduces fuel consumption by up to 15%.
Stop & Start technology stops the engine when the car stops, for example at a red light or in traffic congestion, and restarts it instantly when needed. This last innovation, offering improved fuel consumption by up to 15% on HDi engines will be implemented on most Peugeot and Citroen models from late 2010. Group goals is to sell one million cars equipped with e-HDi 2013.
Performance unprecedented combination of e-HDi reflect several technologies:
- HDi engine - one of the most efficient motors in industry
- A start & stop with the second generation of reversible alternator power
- An e-booster, to instantly restart the engine
- An alternator management system for recovering energy from braking
- A gearbox with optimized ratios
In addition, all e-HDi models will be equipped with low resistance tires in advance.
The first models equipped with e-HDi technology will be the new Citroen C4 Citroen C5 and C4 Picasso, from the third quarter of 2010. Then it will be integrated on most models powered by 1.4 and 1.6 HDi engines, 308 and 407's replacement will be the first models equipped with these engines. In 2013, 30% of diesel will be e-PSA HDi.
Between 2010 and 2012, PSA Peugeot Citroen will launch:
- Second all-electric cars: Peugeot Citroen C-ZERO Ion (2010)
- Two cars with hybrid engines (diesel-electric): Peugeot 3008 and Cotrne HYbrid4 HYbrid4 DS5 (2011)
- New internal combustion engines, including a new family of small gasoline engines, 1.0-and 1.2-liter three-cylinder (2012).

Having just read the above it is deja vu, it really is. Who in the PSA group has decided to reinvent the wheel yet again. It is a fine concept on paper unfortunately not when the vehicle starts to put on the mileage and reliability issues appear, not to mention the escalating cost of repairs and parts, in my experience most of the citroen mechanics do not have an iota so it will become an issue.
Then of course the traffic congestion the journey from my home town or the first five miles can take an hour thanks to previous government planning. My car would be running on cold start setting all the way due to the stop start nonsense. Why not spend the time and money teaching people how to drive economically and with social responsibility.
I own a 06 Picasso my fuel consumption averages between 58/60 mpg winter driving with start stop gizmo this would increase my consumption to mid 40 mpg. My son and I have given up on franchise garage servicing, I maintain the car myself and farm out the more involved jobs to a very good non franchise garage. My Verdict on the car it's OK but a bit fragile
