Renault Launches Largest Photovoltaic System In The Auto Industry
In partnership with Solar Gestamp, Renault announced the largest solar project in the industry, which will be installed at its factories in France. Panels will cover a total of 450,000 square meters offering a capacity of 60 MW.
The project envisages fracenz manufacturer factories in Douai, Maubeuge, Flins, Batilly, Sandouville and Cleon. The photovoltaic panels will cover an area equivalent to 60 football fields and will provide a capacity of 60 MW - the annual consumption of a city with a population of 15,000 inhabitants.
By using solar power, Renault will reduce CO2 emissions by 30,000 tonnes per year.
The project is part of Renault 2016 - Drive the Change "Renault's strategic plan to reduce carbon emissions by 10% by 2013 and by another 10% between 2013 and 2016.
Renault has already implemented several actions to reduce emissions at its factories. The solar panel project, Renault is showing its concern for the conservation of resources by diversifying the energy mix used in electricity generation.
Date photovoltaic system installation will begin mid June 2011 with the project completion date in February 2012.
