Renault-Nissan wants a 20% market share at electric cars

Renault-Nissan Alliance aims to reach a 20% share of world market electric vehicles by 2020, said alliance Executive Director Carlos Ghosn, the Japanese Kyodo News Agency, quoted by Mediafax.

However, Ghosn expects the car market share of electrical cars worldwide will climb to 10% by 2020, writes the Telegraph. He noted that Nissan is ready to cut production by up to 20% by September, when the program expires by the Japanese government provides subsidies for the purchase of more efficient machines in terms of fuel consumption.

Toyota likely to reduce 20% production in Japan in October, anticipating a reduction in demand, Kyodo noted.

Nissan will launch the first electric car market, Leaf, this year in the U.S. and Japan and 2011 in Europe. Ghosn believes that Leaf will be able to compete in price with petrol engines of the same size category.
