The next Volkswagen New Beetle Golf platform will be built
The new generation Volkswagen Beetle 2012 will come to market with a new design, scheduled to begin production next year. The retro look will retain and provide more space for rear seat passengers.
Spy photos have already surprised some testing prototypes, and so may find that the new Beetle, despite design changes, will keep its retro look. The new generation has the same platform as the Volkswagen Beetle and the Golf VI will be built throughout the Puebla plant in Mexico.
In an interview with Stefan Jacoby said last year when he was president and CEO of Volkswagen Group America, that the next generation New Beetle will have more space for rear passengers, although the machine dimensions are not significantly altered, write Automotive News Europe.
Jacoby said that the main customer complaints for the current model, besides age, refer to the back seat. Since its launch in 1998, the New Beetle has undergone few changes and improvements.
Most sales, 83,434 units were registered in 1999 and since then have been in permanent decline. Volkswagen New Beetle sold only 14,085 cars last year in the United States, with 47% more than in 2008. However, this year through September, sales rose 27% from last year to 14,747 units.
New Generation Volkswagen New Beetle could be presented in premiere at the Detroit Auto Show (10 to 23 January 2011), with sales to begin will shortly thereafter.
