Toyota has sold over 2.68 million hybrid cars

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced that its cumulative sales of hybrid cars in Japan have exceeded 1 million share, while over 2.68 million units were sold globally in 1997 until July 31, 2010.

In August 1997, in Japan, TMC launched the first hybrid vehicle - minibus Toyota Coaster Hybrid EV. In December the same year, TMC launched the Toyota Prius - the world's first hybrid vehicle produced in mass. Using Toyota's hybrid system was extended to other vehicles, the minivan's, and SUV's with rear-wheel drive sedans. In 2009, TMC has expanded its range of hybrid vehicles with the launch of the third generation Prius and other hybrid cars November 2 - Lexus' HS250h "and Toyota" Sai ".

TMC now produces nine passenger cars and commercial vehicles with hybrid three, the latter being sold only in Japan.

Outside Japan, Toyota sells eight passenger hybrid vehicles in about 80 countries and regions, cumulative sales reached 1.68 million units (from 1997 to July 31, 2010).

By July 31, 2010, TMC has calculated that in 1997 its hybrid vehicles have resulted in savings of 4 million tonnes of CO2 in Japan and about 16 million tonnes overall - had been issued quantities of gasoline vehicles, sizes and similar performance hybrid.

Toyota has set a target to introduce each one a model number of hybrid vehicles by 2020.
