Toyota has sold worldwide over 3 million hybrid cars

Toyota Motor Corporation announced today that global cumulative sales of hybrid vehicles have exceeded 3 million units. Toyota has sold over 3.03 million hybrid cars worldwide to 28 February 2011.

In August 1997, Toyota launched in Japan "Coaster Hybrid EV, and in December launched the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle: Prius. Toyota Prius sales began in North America, Europe and the world in 2000. Then in 2003 came the second generation Prius hybrid system and extending the use of other types of vehicles, minivan, SUV's rear-wheel drive sedans and hatchbacks. Third generation Toyota Prius has been on sale in May 2009 and the cumulative worldwide sales have reached 2 million hybrid cars in August of that year.

In September 2010, the Toyota Prius has exceeded 2 million units sold, cumulatively since its market launch in 1997.

In 2011, continuing the expansion of Toyota hybrid vehicles, launching in January CT new Lexus 200h - hybrid first premium compact class. Toyota now sells 16 models of hybrids in some 80 countries and regions worldwide, including three commercial vehicles in Japan. Toyota plans to introduce hybrid vehicles until November 10 at the end of 2012, of which 6 and 4 new models being reviewed.

By 28 February 2011, according to their calculations, Toyota hybrid vehicles have clean atmosphere 18 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
