Toyota wants to sell five million hybrid vehicles by 2015

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota announced Wednesday that it wants to achieve total sales of 5 million hybrid vehicles in the first half of this decade and wants to improve the efficiency of its cars by 25% over 2005 levels.

Toyota, the company launched the world's first hybrid vehicle in 1997, recently announced that to date has sold over 2.68 million hybrid vehicles worldwide, including over one million hybrid vehicles in Japan and 1.68 million hybrid vehicles abroad.

Japanese car manufacturer has set a sales target of at least one million hybrid vehicles per year and is planning to introduce hybrid versions of its cars to the range early in 2020.

According to a five-year action plan, which lasts until 2015, released Wednesday, the largest car manufacturer has informed the world that is going to improve the efficiency of its vehicles by 25 percent compared with 2005 levels.
