Volkswagen became the world's no. 1 in the world, passing Toyota
The latest statistics, Volkswagen passed Toyota in sales, recording the first nine months of the year delivered 4.4 million vehicles, while Toyota sold just 4 million and 3.7 million Ford.
It was faster than we expected. Volkswagen planned to exceed Toyota until 2018, but economic and financial conditions in the past year have affected even those plans.
Together with Porsche, the Volkswagen Group produced the 4.4 million vehicles globally during the first nine months of the year, according to institute Global Insight. Toyota has made in this period only 4 million units and the largest American manufacturer, Ford, sold 3.7 million cars, followed closely by General Motors, with 3.6 million.
While Volkswagen has also suffered a decline in sales, it was lower than that of competitors. And the new leader has prepared its new compact-class models (Polo and Golf) in order to launch in the U.S., while preparing a new Passat.
Toyota, until recently a business model in the industry, recently announced that it expects this year to losses of billions.
