Volkswagen Group sales rose by 20.9%

Volkswgen Group delivered the first four months of 2010, a total of 2.34 million vehicles worldwide (January-April 2009: 1.93 million), representing an increase of 20.9%. In Europe, the largest carmaker increased by 18.1%.

"Supply situation in the first quarter grew well. Strong upward trend continued and growing markets like China and Brazil, where Volkswagen recorded a huge success. Volkswagen Group has made considerable progress and more mature markets such as Western Europe and North American, "said Christian Klingler, responsible for sales of the Volkswagen Group. "Despite the positive performance to date, remain reserved to forecast full-year 2010. It is still very difficult to predict macroeconomic development ", added the German official.

Vehicle deliveries during January to April increased in all major markets: 620,500 (2009: 405,500) vehicles delivered in China and 217,000 (2009: 209,300) units in Brazil. In India, sales nearly doubled, reaching 10,400 units (5300, 96%).

In the U.S., the Volkswagen Group delivered 112,600 cars (in 2009: 81,800, 37.7%). In Europe, the German group sold 1.13 (1.03) million vehicles in the period from January to April, corresponding to an increase of 9.5%. In Western Europe, deliveries rose by 11.9% to 1.01 (0.90) million vehicles.
