Volkswagen has passed a new record in 2010: 4.6 million cars sold
Volkswagen passenger car division reported a new record for 2010: 4.5 million vehicles (3.95 million in 2009, 13.9%) were delivered to customers worldwide for the first time in a period 12 months.
"Thanks to new innovative and environmentally friendly models such as the Touran, Sharan, Touareg and Passat, Volkswagen Passenger Cars has reached an excellent performance in a difficult business environment and strengthened its competitive position," he said Friday, Christian Klingler, responsible for sales within the Volkswagen Group.
Volkswagen brand reported a substantial increase in major markets such as China, USA, Russia and India. Over 1.51 million vehicles were delivered for the first time in China (1.12 million in 2009, 35.5%) including Hong Kong in 2010. In the U.S., Volkswagen has delivered 256,800 vehicles (213,500 in 2009, +20.3%). In Russia supplies have reached 58,900 units (39,500 in 2009, 49.1%). Development in India has been rewarded now, Volkswagen reporting a significant increase in volumes, delivering 30,200 vehicles, ie more than 10 times more than the previous year (2009: 2,800 cars).
In the Asia / Pacific Volkswagen brand also registered an increase of 37.6%, up to 1.65 million vehicles (2009: 1.20) while the number of deliveries in the U.S. Volkswagen reached 460,400 units ( 2009: 344,800, +17.9%).
In Europe, Volkswagen sales have remained relatively stable, the German brand cars delivering more than 1.55 million customers (2009: 1.56, -1.2%), a market that shrank by 2.5%.
