Volkswagen Polo 2010 World Car of the Year

On the New York Auto Show, Volkswagen Polo was declared the winner of the title "2010 World Car of the Year. Design Year was claimed by Chevrolet Camaro, Audi R8 - the most powerful and BlueMotion technology - the most environmentally friendly.
Volkswagen Polo was chosen from an initial list of 30 cars, nominated as eligible by the 59 jury members, representatives from 25 countries worldwide. Each member of the jury has been convened by the Committee for World Car of experience, credibility and influence in the media.
The jury voted in January 2010 to establish a list of 10 finalists machines. The second round of voting took place in February, when the jury awarded the 10 points the candidate based on merit, value, safety, environment, emotional significance and attraction. World Car of the Year was chosen from the ten finalists machines.
The jury in the World Car of the Year held: "Competing in the most competitive market segment, the new Polo, the 5th generation, is one of Volkswagen's top performers. Offering the best package of features and handling in the segment, this super mini combines classic appearance, reliability and quality. Polo is definitely the classic small class Volkswagen ever built. Is safe, has received five stars in Euro NCAP. Polo is a subcompact simply brilliant. "
Top 3 cars that have competed in this year's 2010 Car of the Year title in the world were Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Toyota Prius and Volkswagen Polo.
Winners from previous years were: 2009 Volkswagen Golf, Mazda2 in 2008, Lexus LS460 in 2007, the 2006 BMW 3 Series and Audi A6 in 2005.
Besides the great title of Car of the Year, and the jury has awarded prizes:
- 2010 World Car Design of the Year: Chevrolet Camaro
- 2010 World Performance of the Year: Audi R8 V10
- 2010 World Green Car: Volkswagen BlueMotion (Golf, Passat, Polo)
