Volkswagen Tiguan Could Be Produced In The U.S.
Volkswagen wants to start production mid-range SUV Tiguan in North America to reduce costs, says a German magazine quoted sources from the company's management.
Volkswagen Jetta and Passat are already produced in North America, and the proposal to produce and Tiguan there could soon be decided by the management board of directors of the German manufacturer, Wirtschaftswoche magazine writes.
Tiguan is built more only at Wolfsburg plant in northern Germany.
The change in U.S. production and using local suppliers of parts, VW can get rid of foreign exchange fluctuations which erodes profits, analysts say.
Engineering in the United States also allows the company to keep pace with the changes of customer preferences on the second largest global market, which often gives the start of such changes.
Volkswagen last week celebrated the opening of its first plant in the U.S. after an investment of nearly $ 1 billion. Production plant in Tennessee is scheduled to reach 150,000 vehicles annually since 2012.
