Volvo Universe luxury concept introduced at the Auto Shanghai 2011

At a news conference at the Shanghai International Auto Show, Volvo introduced the concept of Universe, a design study for a future company's luxury sedan, possibly called the Volvo S80, built on a scalable new platform.

"Shanghai is the perfect place for a world premiere of a superb machine that has been tailored for the most demanding customers, the luxury," said Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation.

The company's director of sales figures presented in the first quarter of 2011, one of the best times in company history. Volvo sold 13.7% more cars than the same period last year, reaching 106,827 units.

"This is the next step in the history-sized luxury sedan Volvo," said Jacoby Universe prior to the disclosure of the new concept. "We will listen carefully to what the Chinese customers think about design. Later, we present the concept Universe and other parts of the world. "

In the same press conference, Stefan Jacoby also announced that Volvo is developing a new platform for next generation cars: SPA - Scalable Platform Architecture.

"Our future sedan will be launched in a few years, will be among the first models built on the new APS architecture. Finally, all cars in the mid and high class will be built on this platform. "
